Skyharbor – Blinding White Noise: Illusion and Chaos

Some interesting new progressive metal from Skyharbor, a UK band from the Basick Records label. There’s a nice review at Dawn of the Deaf.

King’s X

King’s X drummer Jerry Gaskill recently suffered a hear attack and is currently out of the ICU and in stable condition. Jerry faces a mountain of medical expenses so the band has released a free concert download from their 1991 Faith Hope Love Tour (Burning Down Boston) in exchange for donating $20 to Jerry’s fund. Here’s the first track from that concert, We Are Finding Who We Are:

King’s X is my first truly ‘progressive’ love (with thanks to Mr. Kramer). The title track from their 1990 album release, Faith, Hope, Love is below. The imagery of their lyrics, the tight soaring choruses mixed with epic guitar riffs and grinding dirges make King’s X a pleasure to listen to, especially when taking epic road trips to New Orleans.

Treme Season Two

The soundtrack for the second season of the HBO series Treme is on sale at Amazon right now for $6.99. While the show itself depressed the hell out of me (I’ve only watched the first season so far), the music is incredible and worth the price. Grab a beignet and a coffee (or a long neck, it’s 11am somewhere after all) and enjoy La Danse De Mardi Gras from Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys:
